Unwed Mothers met in a series of university halls, jam spaces, and dimly lit bars. At the helm of the project is front-woman and songwriter Julie Adams who's leather lungs and moody lyrics can only be attributed to years of strange ups and heartbreaking downs. Backing her are three musicians whose air tight playing boasts a sound achieved through years of playing together. Michael James dominates the lead guitar with a laid back, aggressive approach and Kurtis Schultz's metric drumming interplays with Josh's tasty bass to create locked-in beats that you can feel pumping in your chest. Between playing shows at some of Edmonton's finest venues the band has been busy recording their debut album which is expected to be released in the Spring of 2013 after the release of their single "Skeletons/Slow (B-Side)" in the winter of 2012. The 9 tracks on the full length album are a collection of songs that were born over the last two years and all reflect a genuine and personal sentiment while still maintaining a strong accessibility to the listener. On stage it is easy to feel the passion and thought put into each note and beat and it's obvious that a strong friendship exists between the members. With vocals that will blow your hair back and a guitar licks that make you want to get out of your seat and get into some trouble, they take the stage with a confidence and charisma that engages audiences from the beginning of the performance to the very end.
